Has the 8th CPC fitment factor been officially finalized by the Government?

No. As of 2026, the Government of India has not officially notified the final fitment factor or revised pay matrix for the 8th CPC. While employee federations (such as NC-JCM) have demanded fitment factors between 2.57 and 3.68, economic analysts suggest plausible ranges between 1.92 and 2.28 after factoring in the ~53% Dearness Allowance merger. All calculator figures represent hypothetical simulations.

What happens to Dearness Allowance (DA) when the 8th Pay Commission is implemented?

Historically across all Central Pay Commissions (including the 5th, 6th, and 7th CPC), the accumulated Dearness Allowance of the existing pay scale is neutralized and subsumed into the new revised Basic Pay. Consequently, on day one of the new pay commission, the Dearness Allowance rate resets to 0% and begins accumulating afresh based on subsequent AICPI-IW consumer price inflation data.

How will House Rent Allowance (HRA) be calculated under the 8th CPC?

Under 7th CPC rules, HRA rates were established at 24% (X Class), 16% (Y Class), and 8% (Z Class), and subsequently escalated to 30%, 20%, and 10% once DA crossed the 50% threshold in 2024. In the 8th CPC, the commission will either notify new baseline percentages on the higher basic pay or continue the tiered city classification (X, Y, Z) with revised minimum floors (currently ₹5,400, ₹3,600, ₹1,800).
